Handward Garden

In the Marlborough Sounds

Handward Garden and Cottage are situated at Anakiwa at the head of the Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough Sounds, South Island, New Zealand. The cottage and picturesque garden are located in a peaceful valley surrounded by farmland and bush clad hills.

The creation of Handward Garden began with the fencing of the first ¾ acre allotment in 1991. Early tree planting was followed by formation of sweeping perennial borders.

Construction of the modern two bedroom Handward Cottage was completed in 1995 and the garden was well established before the purchase of another adjoining ¾ acre allotment in 1997.

Native Trees and Birds

Predominant Native tree planting and vibrant perennial borders on the original allotment were complemented by the planting of deciduous trees in a park like setting on the additional allotment.

After 21 years in creation Handward Garden is now well established and attracts Native Bell Birds, Tuis and Wood Pigeons throughout the seasons of the year.
